Rose Colored Glasses

I gave my little Sammie a bath last night. It gave me an opportunity to clean the affected areas over her little body and give her some special attention. (She pretends to hate baths but secretly she likes to be all fluffed up and pretty) So I grabbed my bottle of hypoallergenic shampoo (why does this stuff smell so bad?), a fresh towel and my little football sheltie and off we went.

I had tears in my eyes when I discovered the extent of the lesions on her body. The skin infection has spread faster and farther then we suspected. I know it must have felt good to get all that dead skin cleared away. I finished with an oatmeal rinse to sooth her skin. She gave me a lick on the nose....

I gently towel dried her and then used my AirForce dryer (on low) and brushed....(I was so careful with the brush)...slowly dried her and fluffed her beautiful bright red coat as best I could. She isn't too steady on her feet you know (3 of them are affected) and she's still pretty weak.... so we had to take our time and I had to be gentle.

When we were all done, she strutted around for a while, wagging her tail, and showing off for Della and Kira. I knew she was feeling better. (Me too, I think) She went over and lay by the fire. As I watched her sleep, I realized that she looked like the old Sammie, very plush and fluffed out. You had to look really close to see that her face still looks like she had tangled with a nest of bees and that she has great big swatches of hair missing where she has been shaved...but then, I have my rose colored glasses on tonight you know.
